Hailing from Middlesbrough, Johny 5's relationship with music began early. Singing, drumming and formal music study ran alongside a growing fascination with DJ culture, and after teaching himself to mix on a pair of belt-drive turntables in his early teens, that curiosity quickly developed into a lifelong obsession with electronic music, record digging and the dancefloor.
Regular trips to Ibiza throughout his teens and early adulthood helped shape his musical identity, spending days digging for records and nights absorbing the energy of the island's clubs and soundsystems.
After years working across vinyl, digital vinyl systems, online radio and streaming, he is equally comfortable on modern club-standard setups and analogue-rooted dancefloors.
Today, Johny 5 divides his time between performing, promoting and helping grow the South West underground music scene. As co-founder of HouseWerk, he helps bring respected UK and international underground house artists to the region, with a particular focus on authentic jackin', funky and groove-led sounds. Alongside this, he is also closely involved with Rhythm Room and its energetic, club-focused approach to underground house and tech.
His sets blend groove-led house, jackin house and driving tech house, drawing on decades of musical influence while remaining firmly focused on the dancefloor. Whether playing intimate venues, terraces or festival stages, the emphasis is always on energy, flow and creating moments that connect with a crowd.
